Radiograph Support

Help with Hainsworth Radiograph, an industrial DICOM / DICONDE viewer for iPhone and iPad.

Contact support

Email Chris@gethainsworth.com. Include your device model, iOS or iPadOS version, app version, and the steps that led to the problem. Copy any error message exactly.

Please do not send confidential radiographs or identifying image metadata unless you have permission to share them. A description or cropped screenshot is often enough to start.

Open an image

Tap Open image to go directly to the Files picker, then select the original DICOM or DICONDE file. Use Images to switch between open radiographs or open more images.

A file with a .dcm extension must contain valid DICOM data; changing a JPEG filename does not convert it. Supported encoding and available device memory determine whether a particular image can open.

Use the viewer offline

Save the file to On My iPhone or On My iPad before disconnecting. Viewing and image processing run on your device. Files stored only in iCloud or another provider may need to download first. No app account is required.

Find the viewing controls

Use W/L to adjust window and level, Pan to move the image, and pinch to zoom. The toolbar also includes rotation, horizontal and vertical flips, and grayscale inversion. Tap Fit to fit the image to the viewer or 1:1 for pixel-scale viewing.

Tap Tools beside the viewer to open the image settings panel. It contains window and level sliders, enhancement controls, noise reduction, and calibration shortcuts. Open More viewing tools for additional controls, including Detail Boost, Local detail, Pixel value, Diameter, and Auto Wall.

Adjust the display

Select Original to turn off enhancement. Display adjustments preserve the original image pixels. Enhanced appearance does not establish better defect detection. Review the original image and follow your inspection procedure when evaluating indications or IQI results.

Compare images

Tap Compare and choose Original vs filtered to review Detail Boost or Fine detail beside the original. For Local detail, switch back to Original in the main viewer to compare. Choose Two radiographs to compare separate open images. The comparison controls include Fit both, 1:1, and a profile line.

Calibrate and measure

Draw a Measure line or Diameter across a known reference, select it, then tap Calibrate or Calibrate selected. Enter the known length and choose millimeters or inches. For a 1-inch ball, enter 1 and select Inches.

Use Profile to inspect pixel intensity along a line and review nearby round-indication candidates. Auto Wall estimates wall thickness after calibration with a known-size ball. Review and adjust proposed edges and circles before using a result. Use a reference in the plane being measured; detector pixel spacing alone does not correct magnification. Calibration and measurement marks apply to the current image/frame for the viewing session.

IQI and image-quality tools

Tap IQI to choose duplex-wire resolution, Wire Type, or hole-type visibility tools. Review the selected gauge, measurement region, and proposed readings before recording results.

Tap SNR to draw signal and background regions for SNR and CNR measurements. For normalized SNRₙ, enter a measured image SRb and confirm that it applies to those regions and acquisition conditions. Detector pixel pitch is not a substitute for measured image resolution. These tools use original pixel data, independently of display filters.

Save or share

Tap Export and choose Original DICOM / DICONDE or Displayed view (PNG). In the Apple share sheet, select Save to Files or your preferred destination.

The original export preserves the file's pixels and metadata. PNG captures the current view and display adjustments; it does not include measurement overlays or DICOM metadata. IQI and SNR results have their own export controls. Export the results you need before clearing images or ending the viewing session.

Intended use

Hainsworth Radiograph is for industrial radiography and non-destructive testing. It is not intended for medical diagnosis. Measurement and IQI tools assist review and do not automatically certify compliance or make inspection acceptance decisions.
